Grass Lake Robotics Team Punches Ticket to World Championship

GLT StaffApril 22, 2026

SAGINAW — The Grass Lake Warriors are heading to the world stage.

Grass Lake Community Schools' robotics team officially qualified for the World Championship after a standout performance at the Michigan state robotics competition, held this April at Saginaw Valley State University.

Going up against the best programs from across the state, the Warriors held their own — and then some — earning one of the coveted invitations to compete on the international level. For a district the size of Grass Lake, that's no small accomplishment. It's the kind of result that takes hundreds of hours of design work, debugging, late-night build sessions, driver practice, and team chemistry.

STEM, the Grass Lake Way

The robotics program at Grass Lake has been steadily building momentum, and this season's run to the World Championship is the clearest signal yet that the program belongs in the conversation with Michigan's elite. Students on the team handle everything from CAD design and mechanical fabrication to programming, electrical work, scouting, and team strategy — real engineering, applied in real time, under real pressure.

What makes this group special isn't just the trophies and the qualifications. It's the way the team operates: collaborative, curious, and tough. Coaches and mentors have repeatedly praised the students' willingness to iterate, troubleshoot under pressure, and pick each other up when matches don't go their way.

A Community Behind Them

None of this happens without the support of Grass Lake families, sponsors, and school leadership. From booster club fundraisers to local businesses that sponsor parts and travel, the World Championship trip is a community accomplishment.

Robotics competitions don't get the same packed-gym treatment as a Friday night football game, but make no mistake — the skills these students are building, from problem-solving to engineering fundamentals to teamwork under pressure, are exactly what Michigan's economy needs more of.

What's Next

The team will now begin preparing for the World Championship, where they'll represent not just Grass Lake but the entire region. Warriors fans, alumni, and families across the area will be cheering them on every step of the way.

Congratulations to every student, mentor, coach, and parent who helped make this happen. Grass Lake is proud of you.

Go Warriors.
